A man from Kuwadzana has been sentenced to six months in prison after being convicted of possessing methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), commonly known as ecstasy.

Tinotenda Nyahuma was convicted following a sting operation conducted by detectives from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Drugs and Narcotics unit in Harare on August 30, 2024.

Officers, acting on a tip-off, posed as buyers at the OK Supermarket on Fife Avenue.

Nyahuma unknowingly approached the undercover detectives and offered them a sachet of the illicit substance.

As the officers moved in to arrest him, Nyahuma resisted violently, prompting a brief scuffle before he was subdued.

A subsequent search revealed four sachets of MDMA in his possession, weighing a total of 1.5807 grams with an estimated street value of ZIG2 212

In an apparent attempt to conceal further evidence, Nyahuma smashed two Google Pixel phones he had on him during the arrest.

Despite the damage, the officers recovered the devices.

Field and laboratory tests later confirmed the seized substance to be MDMA.

Nyahuma was convicted under the country’s Dangerous Drugs Act [Chapter 15:02].
