A MAN from Fort Rixon has been sentenced to nine months in prison for assaulting his wife after she served him isitshwala with milk.
Moses Matshilobi (35) of Battle Farms Compound in Shangani slapped Ms Gamuchirai Dube once on the left cheek.
He also hit her on the left breast with a stone.
Matshilobi pleaded guilty to two counts of physical abuse when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Lizwe Jamela.
He was sentenced to nine months in prison. Three months of the sentence were suspended on condition that he does not within that period commit a similar offence.
The remaining six months were suspended on condition that he completes 210 hours of community service at ZRP Shangani base.
Matshilobi said he was angered by the fact that his wife served him isitshwala with milk when he had given her money to buy meat.
Prosecuting, Mr Denmark Chihombe said on Monday this week at around 11PM, Matshilobi arrived home and found his wife asleep. “The accused person went on to awaken the complainant and shouted at her for serving him isitshwala with milk. He slapped her once on the cheek,” he said.
The following day at around 5AM, Ms Dube was on her way to the toilet when she came across one of her relatives and reported the assault.
This angered Matshilobi who followed his wife and insulted her. He went on to hit her with a stone once on her left breast and thigh.
Ms Dube reported the matter to the police leading to her husband’s arrest. — @zinyuke98
