Man jailed for unlawful hunting

A 27-YEAR-OLD man from Mapinde Village under Chief Nebiri was sentenced to six months imprisonment, of which three months were suspended for five years after being found guilty of contravening the Parks and Wildlife Act.

Learnmore Mapinde of Mapinde Village under the Chief Nebiri appeared before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court.

According to a statement by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), on 17 September 2024, game rangers who were patrolling Kamondo game area in Siakobvu received a tip-off to the effect that the accused person was selling some game meat at his homestead.

“They went to the accused person’s homestead and conducted a search and discovered a 2kgs of dried buffalo meat, leading to the arrest of the accused person,” reads the statement.

The accused person also led to the recovery of the rear left leg and the head of the buffalo, of which the buffalo was valued at US$10 000

“He will serve an effective three months in prison, and was ordered to compensate USD10 000 to ZimParks,” said the NPAZ.
