MAN KILLED FOR SNATCHING DRINKING PAL’S HAT

B-Metro Reporter

A NEW Year hat grab that should have ended with laughter and maybe a scuffle over style has instead landed a young man in the dock facing a murder charge.

Mpumelelo Ncube (23) of Zhombe, Village Jobe 2 under Chief Malisa, has been remanded in custody until 20 January after a deadly stabbing that prosecutors say started over nothing more than a hat.
Yes, a hat.

In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said:
“Allegations are that on the 1st of January 2026, the accused person produced a knife and stabbed the now-deceased once in the right upper arm after the now-deceased took his hat.”

Just like that, a playful snatch or petty provocation turned into a one-stab tragedy.

The victim collapsed and “died at the scene”, all because of a hat that could have been returned with a joke or settled with a shove.
