A ROW over a hoe ended in tragedy when a 46-year-old Bulawayo man whacked his workmate to death with a steel rod, police confirmed yesterday. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo said the incident occurred on Saturday at about 9pm at Timberland, Westondale area in the city.
He identified the deceased as Enock Manyanga (53).

The suspect, Vincent Mpofu has since been arrested and he is now facing a murder charge.
“Our preliminary investigations indicate that Manyanga borrowed a hoe from Mpofu so that he could weed his field. It looks like Manyanga was delaying in returning the hoe and when the two men met at their workplace, Mpofu demanded his hoe during which an altercation ensued,” said Insp Moyo.

While the two men were arguing, Manyanga punched Mpofu in the face and in retaliation, the latter picked up a steel rod and struck the now deceased on the head and he died instantly, police said.

“We arrested the suspect in connection with the murder of Manyanga and he is now assisting us with investigations,” said Insp Moyo.
Manyanga’s body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) for a post-mortem.

Insp Moyo said the suspect would appear in court soon.
