A 23-YEAR –OLD man from Shurugwi in Midlands Province died after he was allegedly assaulted by two miners over US$15 he owed one of them.
A source close to the incident said Oliver Gwama (23) owed Nicholas Gwande US$15 which he was given in June this year.
However, things turned for the worst when the pair met at Majachani Business Centre in Shurugwi while they were on a boozing spree.
It is said that Gwande confronted Gwama and hurled insults at him while demanding his money. Following that, the situation spiralled out of control as Gwande teamed up with his friend Jabulani Mutami and assaulted Gwama with fists. Gwama managed to free himself and ran away.
Later on the same day, one of the miners stumbled on his lifeless body next to Blooming Lilly mine. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mutami while Gwande is yet to be arrested.
Midlands Police Spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and appealed for information that may lead to the arrest of the Gwande.
“Anyone with information may contact us on 0542221073 or may contact any nearest police station,” he said.
