A GOKWE man died upon admission to Gokwe Hospital after being struck with an iron bar by his cousin who accused him of bewitching him.
The now deceased Mr Nkosiyazi Mpofu (38) was struck twice on the head with an iron bar by Mapiwa Ncube (38) who accused him of bewitching him.
Midlands provincial spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident that happened in Kufa Village under Chief Mkoka in Gokwe on 10 December.
“Police in Gokwe are investigating a murder case where a man died at Gokwe South Hospital after he was struck twice on the head with an iron bar by his cousin brother who accused him of bewitching him,” said inspector Mahoko.
On the fateful day, Mr Mpofu visited Ncube at his homestead.
“Upon arrival, Ncube started accusing Mr Mpofu of bewitching him and took an iron bar and struck him on the head twice” said Insp Mahoko.
Neighbours heard the screams and rushed to the scene where they found the now deceased lying in a pool of blood.
They rushed the now deceased to Nyaje Clinic where he was further referred to Gokwe Hospital where he died upon admission.
Ncube was arrested and is in police custody.
Meanwhile, in Kwekwe, police are investigating a murder case of a 48-year-old man who died upon admission at Kwekwe Hospital after being stabbed twice in the back with a knife by his friend.
The now deceased, Mr Rueben Mativenga was allegedly stabbed by his friend, Cleopas Tomu (19) at a lodge in Chicago, Kwekwe.
“It is alleged that on 5 December at around 3PM, Mativenga was in the company of Tomu and others at the lodge when a misunderstanding arose between the two and they were refrained from fighting by others,” said Inspector Mahoko.
Tomu suddenly withdrew a knife and stabbed Mativenga twice on the back and he collapsed.
He was rushed to Kwekwe Hospital where he died upon admission.
Police, who are still hunting for Tomu, appealed to those who might have information on his whereabouts to contact any nearest police station.
