A GOKWE man has been slapped with a five-year jail term following a blood soaked knife attack on his friend at Jaravaza Business Centre.
Ruben Ziyambi (36) was convicted of attempted murder at the Gokwe Magistrates Court and sentenced to five years imprisonment, with one year suspended on condition of good behaviour. He will serve four years behind bars.
According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the October 20 showdown erupted “after a breakdown in their friendship.” The NPAZ said the dispute exploded into violence as Ziyambi pulled out a knife and “stabbed the victim three times on the back, the forehead and behind the ear, causing serious injuries.”
Despite the vicious assault, the victim managed to wrestle the knife away before Ziyambi bolted from the scene. A police report was filed immediately, leading to his arrest.
The conviction comes as the NPAZ continues urging communities to step back from violence and seek help before grudges turn deadly. “The NPAZ continues to urge communities to resolve disputes peacefully and to seek appropriate third party intervention to prevent violence and protect lives,” read the statement.
