A MAN from Goromonzi, Munashe Ngoshi (21), has been arrested for allegedly murdering an associate following a misunderstanding over ZiG9.
Police identified the victim as Mr Lionel Nyakudarikwa.
The ZiG9 at the centre of the dispute reportedly belonged to Ngoshi’s uncle and was meant to buy alcohol.
It is said Mr Nyakudarikwa was asked to keep the cash, but later failed to account for it, prompting Ngoshi to assault him on August 16, 2024 near Chinyika Business Centre in Goromonzi.
Acting police spokesperson for Mashonaland East Province Assistant Inspector Misheck Denhere confirmed Ngoshi’s arrest.
“Reports are that a misunderstanding arose leading to Munashe Ngoshi tripping Nyakudarikwa. He banged his head against a pre-cast wall. Ngoshi reportedly continued to assault him with fists and kicked him several times on the head and face. He further stepped on Nyakudarikwa’s head twice and left him unconscious. A passer-by rushed home and advised the deceased’s father that his son had been assaulted and left unconscious.”
According to police, Nyakudarikwa’s father went to the scene and rushed his son to Chinyika Clinic for treatment.
On the same day, Nyakudarikwa was transferred to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare but he died on admission.
Asst Insp Denhere said Ngoshi was subsequently arrested.
“Investigations are in progress and we urge the public to always find peaceful ways of solving misunderstandings. The public should always respect the sanctity of life.”
