A Chipinge man committed suicide on Sunday after his wife denied him his conjugal rights. Mutare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the death of Zondai Muchini (34) of Section 8, Gomo Compound, Ratings Estate, Middle Sabi.

“We received a report following the death of Muchini, who took a pesticide at his house in the garden after a domestic dispute with his wife, Melisa Tsopedza (29).

“This misunderstanding occurred after Tsopedza refused to have sexual intercourse with her husband,” said Insp Kakohwa.
It is alleged that on April 22, at around 10pm, Muchini arrived home while drunk and asked to be intimate with his wife, but she refused.

Muchini left the house and went to the garden where the poison was kept.
He downed half the contents of the bottle.
A concerned Tsopedza later left the house to look for her husband and after failing to locate him, she returned to the house, where she, however, found her husband writhing in agony.

Although she tried to ask Muchini what had happened, he failed to answer as he was struggling to breathe.
It was only after checking the house that she discovered the pesticide.
Tsopedza reportedly rushed to alert Muchini’s sister, Kettyi (36), who lives in the neighbourhood.

But when the pair returned, Muchini had already passed on.
A police report was lodged at Middle Sabi Police Station.
Insp Kakohwa implored members of the public to seek amicable ways of solving their domestic dis- putes.
