A man from Trenance in Bulawayo has been arrested after he allegedly clobbered his wife, knocking out two of her front teeth for involving herself in a transaction between him and his friend. Simon Moyo was infuriated by his wife, Elizabeth Mharadze, for calling him to talk to his friend whom he had sold a cellphone memory card to.
He allegedly punched her repeatedly until she bled on Tuesday at around 10AM. Moyo is alleged to have sold a non-functioning cellphone memory card to a man only identified as Ncube who came to his home looking for him to reverse the deal.
Mharadze told Chronicle that she did not know the arrangement between her husband and Ncube.
“I called my husband since his friend was looking for him. He surprisingly turned against me. He charged at me and pummelled me with fists. I lost my two lower teeth instantly.”
She said her husband was inexplicably incensed because she attended to his friend and accused her of interfering in his private business. A neighbour rushed Mharadze to Mpilo Central Hospital.
A case for domestic violence was opened at Sauerstown Police Station, Report Received Book (RRB) number 1190030 and Crime Register (CR) 04/06/16.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango confirmed the arrest but declined to comment further.
She said the issue had been taken to court.
Sources told Chronicle that police arrested Moyo on the same day and detained him at Sauerstown Police Station.
Police, the source said, were awaiting a medical report to ascertain the degree of injury Mharadze sustained so that they could properly frame charges against Moyo.
