A Provincial environmental health officer was left counting his losses after he was allegedly robbed of his salary and a cellphone at gunpoint.
When the incident occurred Notho Dube (55), from Magwegwe West in Bulawayo had parked his Toyota Vitz at the corner of Fifth and 11th Avenues after 9pm to buy fruits.
He switched off the ignition and disembarked from his car. As he was buying fruits from a vendor, a Honda Fit with four occupants, including the driver, abruptly stopped beside his vehicle.
“One of the occupants alighted from the car and pointed a gun at him threatening to shoot him dead if he screamed. He didn’t scream. They then forced him back to his car and stole US$690, which he claimed was his salary, along with his cellphone. After that, they sped off in their car,” said the source close to the investigation.
Shaken and devastated, Dube drove to Bulawayo Central Police Station to report the incident.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Abednico Ncube could not be reached for a comment by the time of publishing.
