Man murders friend

POLICE in Zvishavane have arrested a 23-year-old man who allegedly fatally stabbed his 22-year-old friend with a broken empty beer bottle after trying to rob him.

Calvin Isaac of Maglas Compound in Zvishavane allegedly killed McDonald Moyo of the same compound with an empty beer bottle. Moyo had just received his salary.

Acting Midlands police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Ethel Mukwende confirmed the incident which occurred on Thursday at around 10pm at Maglas compound.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a murder case which occurred at Maglas in Zvishavane where a male adult died after being stabbed by a broken empty beer bottle by his friend. We have arrested the suspect Calvin Isaac in connection with the murder and he is in police custody assisting with investigations. He will appear in court soon,” she said.

A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity alleged that Moyo and Isaac were drinking beer at Nyaradzai Beer Hall in Maglas in the company of Emmanuel Munyani, Vincent Sibanda and Tafadzwa Hove after the now deceased received his salary.

“The five were drinking beer at Nyaradzai Beer Hall and at around 10pm they decided to go home. While on their way, Moyo realised that he had forgotten his vuvuzela horn which he had just bought in the bar and decided to go back to collect it. When he got into the beer hall he could not find it and decided to proceed home. While on their way they heard a sound of the horn which was being blown coming from the west and they decided to follow the sound. The five friends decided to split into two search parties. Moyo and Isaac decided to conduct the search together while the other three went in a different direction,” said the neighbour.

Isaac, the neighbour further alleged, seized the opportunity and stabbed Moyo with a broken empty beer bottle on the chest and he fell unconscious.

“When the other three friends met Isaac and Moyo, the latter was lying on the ground bleeding profusely, groaning in pain while the former was trying to render first aid. Moyo was rushed to the Zvishavane District Hospital where he died on admission. The matter was reported to the police leading to Isaac’s arrest. We suspect that Isaac was trying to rob the now deceased because he had just been paid his salary,” said the neighbour.
