Man offers entire $50 salary as child upkeep

Patient Sibanda Court Reporter
A BULAWAYO cashier yesterday stunned a court when he offered his whole salary for the upkeep of his minor child as he has other means to make money. Sindiso Dlomo of Bulawayo’s Thorngrove suburb had been dragged to the Maintenance Court by his estranged wife Dorcas Sibanda of Mabutweni suburb.

Sibanda was claiming $125 for the upkeep of their child.

Dlomo told magistrate Tinashe Tashaya that he was an assistant cashier and earned $50 per month.

“Your worship I’m an assistant cashier at Blue Lagoon trading centre and I get $50 per month. I offer $50 for the upkeep of my child.

“I’ve since separated with her and I’ve married another wife and she stays in rural areas. I’ve other means of getting money besides being an assistant cashier,” said Dlomo.

Sibanda told the court that Dlomo used to give her $200 before he left their home to stay in Thorngrove.

“He left us to stay in Thorngrove. I didn’t know that he has since married another wife. I want $145 for rentals, food and also for buying clothes,” she said.

The magistrate said since Dlomo had said he had other means to make money, he was supposed to pay $75 for the upkeep of his minor child.
