However, bystanders intervened and restrained the pair, temporarily diffusing the situation.
“The two men were drinking beer when a misunderstanding broke out between them. The situation escalated into a violent fight, but the two were temporarily restrained by some people around. Mungazi followed Mangoma, who was leaving and returned at the shops staggering. Memory Jimu attended to him and detected that he had sustained a sharp stab wound on the chest and abdomen. Police investigations are still in progress,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Mangoma was rushed to Rusape General Hospital for medication, but was unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.
Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating the suspect, urging anyone with information to contact their nearest police station and help bring the alleged killer to justice.
“We urge anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to come forward and assist us in bringing the alleged killer (Mungazi) to justice. He fled the scene and remains a fugitive from justice,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka also emphasized the importance of responsible drinking, warning that alcohol-fuelled violence continues to claim lives unnecessarily.
