A HARARE man has been ordered to pay US$60 per month for the upkeep of his seven-year-old child.
Tendai Taonezvi appeared at the Harare Civil Court seeking US$190 and 3,000 ZiG per month from Dumiswe Ncube for maintenance.
She told the court that she is a security guard who earns US$150 per month and that Ncube is a soldier who earns US$340 plus 6,000 ZiG monthly.
Taonezvi presented a breakdown of the child’s needs totalling US$190 and 3,000 ZiG.
She requested 2,000 ZiG for school fees from her former husband.
Ncube disputed the figures presented by his former wife, telling the court that he earns US$320 and 6,000 ZiG as a soldier.
He told the court that he could only provide US$40 for school fees and US$40 for upkeep.
Ncube indicated that he has other dependants, including one child who requires medication.
After hearing submissions from both parties, presiding magistrate Janemary Makonye granted the maintenance application, ordering Ncube to pay US$60 per month and 50 percent of the school fees.
