Man ordered to pay US$60 in child support

A HARARE man has been ordered to pay US$60 per month for the upkeep of his two children aged four and one month.

Ms Josphen Muzenzini appeared at the Harare Civil Court seeking US$310 per month from Mr Wonderful Chivi for maintenance.

She told the court that she did piece jobs to earn a living and earned approximately US$20 or US$15 per month.

Ms Muzenzini presented a breakdown of the child’s needs totalling US$310.

She told the court that Mr Chivi was a machine operator at a construction company who earned US$610 monthly.

She requested US$60 for school fees from her former husband. Mr Chivi offered to pay US$30 for the fees and US$30 for the upkeep of the minor children.

He told the court that he was a machine operator who earned US$250 per month and did not have any other dependents.

After hearing submissions from both parties, Presiding Magistrate Ms Janemary Makonye granted the maintenance application, ordering Mr Chivi to pay US$60 per month with effect from October 31, 2026.

In addition to pay 50 percent of the school fees and all other school expenses.
