Man pours beer on drinking mate and clobbers him with stone

A GWERU man (26) has been handed a 12 months prison sentence for pouring beer on a drinking mate’s head and striking him with a stone.

Austin Nyakabawo (26) stood before the court, facing charges of assault.

On 2 August 2024, Nyakabawo soaked the unnamed victim’s head with beer and smashed a stone into his head, for unknown reasons.

The victim suffered a deep, bleeding cut and a police report led to the arrest of Nyakabawo.

In an official statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said, “On the 2nd of August 2024 the accused person poured beer on the complainant’s head at a plot in Gweru. The accused person also struck the complainant with a stone on the head resulting in him sustaining a deep cut. A report was made to the police leading to the accused person’s arrest.”

He was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment of which 6 months were suspended. A further 6 months imprisonment was suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service.
