A 37-YEAR-OLD married man has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old mentally challenged girl. Trinity Dube of Mpopoma suburb in Bulawayo lured the girl to his house where he allegedly raped her once.
Dube was not asked to plead to a rape charge when he appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Sibongile Msipa -Marondedze yesterday. He was remanded in custody to September 30.
Prosecuting, Maria John said on August 31 at about 12 noon, the girl was sent by her grandmother to the shops to buy bread. John said on her way back home, the juvenile met Dube who told her to follow him to his house.
“Upon arrival at the house, Dube locked the door and gave the juvenile some clothes to change,” she said. John said he ordered the girl to sit on the bed but she refused and he slapped her once on the cheek forcing her to comply.
“He removed her panties and raped her once without protection,” she said. After the act, John said, Dube took the girl to the shops and bought her juice and a packet of biscuits before sending her home.
“Upon arrival at her home, the girl headed straight to the bathroom where she had a bath,” she said. John said the matter came to light when the girl’s grandmother asked why she had taken too long to return from the shops and she recounted her ordeal.
The grandmother reported the matter to the police and Dube was arrested.
