RESIDENTS of Charlotte Brook teamed up to apprehend Tyron Madzinga after he allegedly raped a Grade Seven pupil.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Thursday at around 1900 hours.
The girl’s mother sought permission to cook at Madzinga’s house, after running out of gas at her home.
Madzinga, 26, agreed.
The mother took her daughter to Madzinga’s home. While the mother cooked in the kitchen, the girl was watching television in the lounge.
She later went to the toilet.
Upon returning, Madzinga is alleged to have seized the child, pulled her into his bedroom, locked the door, and raped her.
The victim told her mother about the assault shortly after it happened.
Madzinga then disappeared.
On Monday, one of the residents spotted Madzinga, prompting the community to mobilise and apprehend him.
He was subsequently arrested.
“We are now living in fear if we have evil people like Madzinga in our hood who are after destroying our children’s lives,” said one resident.
The resident added that although the community had the chance to punish him, they decided to hand him over to police.
“He was not assaulted. We agreed to take him to Borrowdale Police Station to allow the law to take its course.”
Police could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.

The victim was taken to the Rape Clinic at Parirenyatwa Hospital.
