A MAN raped an 83-year-old woman in Mutoko.
The elderly woman, who stays alone, was abused around 2am.
The man forcibly opened the door of her hut and raped her once without protection. Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed the case. Insp Chazovachii also urged traditional leaders to take part in educating the young not to victimise the elderly.
“Police are investigating a case of a granny who was raped by an unidentified person,” said Insp Chazovachii.
“The complainant was sleeping alone in her bedroom at Kuparira Village under Chief Chimoyo in Mutoko.
“The unknown accused person was reported to have grabbed her by the neck and strangled her.
“The complainant screamed for help but the efforts were fruitless, she was raped once. The complainant later managed to escape from the scene and she went to see her daughter and revealed the matter.
“A search party for the accused person was conducted but they failed to locate him.“The complainant was referred to All Souls Hospital for medical examinations.”
