a child since his sibling had failed.
The man is reported to have raped the victim twice in June this year and last week.
He was still in police custody last week and assisting police with investigations.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Leonard Chabata said the victim (30) had been married to the man’s young brother (28), for two years and the two have no child.
“On June 18 this year, the brother left his wife alone at their Dangamvura home and went to his workplace in Sakubva,” he said.
“The suspect then went to the house where he accused the victim of failing to bear children with his young brother. He accused the victim of failing to bear children, because of the non-performance of her husband. He then ordered her to lie down and raped her once, promising her a child.”
The woman did not reveal the matter to anyone.
Last Thursday, it is alleged that the man followed the victim to the toilet where he raped her again before threatening to kill her if she reveals the matter.
The woman then informed her mother-in-law and a report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the suspect.
