A 22-YEAR-OLD Gokwe man has been arrested after he assaulted a 104-year-old woman for turning down his love proposal before he went on to rape the elderly woman while she was unconscious. The man, Batanai Kutsara, was on Wednesday arraigned before Gokwe regional magistrate Mr Shepherd Munjanja facing a rape and assault charges.

He denied the charges and was remanded in custody to 22 April 2014.

For the State, Mr Tineyi Tirigo told the court that on 27 March 2014, the complainant was walking with the aid of a stick to her fields when she saw Kutsara and a friend standing by the side of a foot path while sharing a cigarette.

As the complainant was passing, Kutsara started proposing to her but the elderly woman turned him down, arguing that she was past the age of getting into an affair. The court heard that Kutsara insisted and said he wanted to experience love with old people like her but she again declined.

The court heard that Kutsara got infuriated by the elderly woman’s firm position that she was past the age of having affairs and picked up a stick.
He used the stick to assault the complainant on the chest and she collapsed.

Kutsara proceeded to rape the elderly woman once before he left the scene leaving her still unconscious.
When the complainant later regained consciousness, she noticed some blood stains from her private parts.

She then picked herself up and went home where she narrated her ordeal to her daughter-in-law.
The matter was later reported to the police leading to Kutsara’s arrest.
