A man from Silobela has been arrested after he force-marched a mentally-challenged woman to his homestead before raping her, while her young brother watched.
John Tshuma (28) of Village 4 under Chief Melisa met his victim as she passed by his homestead in the company of her young brother when he allegedly grabbed her and dragged her into his bedroom hut before raping her once.
The victim’s brother, according to the police, later told a fellow villager about the trauma he went through as he watched helplessly as his mentally challenged sister was being raped. The matter was then reported at Silobela Police Base.
Tshuma was yesterday arraigned before Kwekwe magistrate Mr Storey Rushambwa facing a rape charge. He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to January 19. Mr Rushambwa advised Tshuma to apply for bail at the High Court. It is the State’s case that on November 6, 2017 at around 7pm, the complainant was on her way home from a nearby tuckshop in the company of her brother.
The court heard that Tshuma grabbed the complainant and force-marched her to his homestead as her brother followed. Tshuma dragged the complainant into his bedroom hut before he stripped her and raped her once in the presence of her brother. After rapping her, Tshuma allegedly opened the door and shoved the complainant and her brother outside before he closed the door. The matter was later reported to the police, leading to Tshuma’s arrest. Kudakwashe Chekai represented the State.
