A 28-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced to 24 months in prison for stealing money from his father’s cellphone.

Mthulisi Mayibongwe Tshuma from Northend appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Challenge Mahembe, who handed down a stern sentence of 24 months, with four months suspended for good behavior and 10 months suspended for restitution, leaving Tshuma with 10 months to serve.

Prosecutor Veronica Manyuka said from September 2025 to November 2025, Tshuma repeatedly took his father Burma Tshuma’s cellphone without permission.

He transferred a staggering US$1,200 to his own EcoCash account on several occasions.

The betrayal didn’t go unnoticed—

Burma reported the theft to the police, leading to Mthulisi’s arrest, with the stolen money gone and nothing recovered.
