Man set on fire for stealing 2 hens

Thatak Nithi – A 30-year-old man in Ngubu village in Tharaka Nithi County, Kenya, narrowly escaped death after villagers set him on fire for stealing two hens.

According to Citizen, John Mugendi was set alight by angry neighbours who caught him with two stolen hens and beans.

Daily Nation said the mob left Mugendi burning, but he managed to put out the fire, before crawling back to his house.

Police arrived at the scene and rushed him to Chuka Hospital where he was undergoing treatment.

Mob justice is common in Kenya, amid calls by police to spare suspects.

Last week, a 60-year-old man in Bungoma County was hacked to death by a mob that allegedly caught him with a stolen mattress.

In Nyandarua, a Form Two student was killed by neighbours who accused him of defilement.

Security officers have warned Kenyans against taking the law into their hands, threatening to take legal action against those involved in mob justice. — AFP
