Man sets ex-girlfriend’s house on fire

A man has been jailed for five years after he torched his ex-girlfriend’s house before attacking her with a machete.

The 40-year-old, Mandlenkosi Mhlanga recently appeared before the Esigodini Magistrates’ Court on two counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to five years imprisonment of which two years were suspended. Mandlenkosi will serve three years effectively. It was proved that the accused and the first complainant and ex-lovers.

On September 24, last year, Mandlenkosi proceeded to the complainant’s homestead at around 11 pm. He found her in the kitchen hut with her boyfriend who is the second complainant in this matter. The State had it that he ordered the first complainant to open the door and when she refused, he set ablaze the kitchen hut.

She managed to escape together with her new boyfriend. The accused person then struck her with a machete once on the right shoulder before he was stopped by the second complainant. A Police report was made resulting in his arrest. (H – Metro)
