Man shot in beer brawl

A beer brawl in Warren Park 1 last Wednesday saw a City of Harare employee racing to his car, grabbing his FN pistol and firing three shots at another man, hitting him in the neck and on the cheek, and then speeding off without rendering medical assistance or even leaving his name.

But he was tracked down by police and on Monday, Leonard Dahwa of New Marimba and stationed at Marlborough District Office, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts charged with attempted murder. He was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before regional magistrate Mr Taurai Manwere, who remanded him in custody to October 12.

Mr Godswish Dzivakwe, appearing for the State, alleges that on Wednesday last week, Dahwa was drinking beer at Nyangani Night Club when he was involved in a misunderstanding with the man he later shot at who was not mentioned in State papers.

Dahwa is alleged to have stormed out of the bar, went to his car where he took his licensed FN Browning pistol, and fired three shots towards the man he was arguing with, who was shot in the neck and on the cheek.

After firing the shots, Dahwa sped from the scene, leaving the victim with serious injuries.

He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals by others in the vicinity where he was admitted.
