A Harare man reportedly visited his church elder’s family before attempting to kill his daughter by slitting her throat with a knife after she caught him stealing.

Tawanda Mashoko (24) sneaked out of church, leaving the Marime family attending service while he went back to their house.

He ransacked the house and stole some items but was caught red-handed by Ollen Marime, who then confronted him.

Mashoko then attacked Ollen with a kitchen knife, it is alleged.

He appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Hosea Mujaya facing charges of attempted murder and unlawful entry.

He is in custody and will be back in court on Monday for trial.
