VETERAN Zimbabwean reggae artist Man Soul Jah (real name Joseph Tawanda Nhara) of the “Mr Government man’’ fame, has been invited to take part in the Trench Town Rocks Reggae concert taking place in Kingston, Jamaica next month.
Several top reggae acts are expected to perform at the Trench Town Rocks Charity Concert aimed at ending gang violence and developing the community. The concert which is being organised by Broad Haven Associates and the Trench Town Development Trust, is expected to feature artistes – Nesbeth, Queen Ifrica, Tony Rebel, Prince IKEEM of Unruly Nation, Destra and from Uganda in East Africa, Jose Chameleone.
Although the concert comes at a time when the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the staging of entertainment events internationally, reggae lovers are excited that this is an opportunity to rekindle their oneness.
According to event organisers, there are plans for the Trench Town Rocks Reggae concerts to be held physically in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as well as in Kenya and Uganda next year.
Man Soul Jah who will be backed by the prolific band, the Travellers, will perform on December 26 at an event that will be live streamed. This is the second time that the artiste has been invited to be part of this event.
Man Soul Jah said his star is on the rise globally uplifting the Zimbabwean flag.
“I believe in solidarity as a channel for the Pan-African engagement and re engagement efforts of the Second Republic. Patriotism is pushing me to guard strongly against the erosion of liberation music,” said Man Soul Jah while adding that reggae music of the likes of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer is music of African Liberty that should find space on local radio.
