A ZIMUNYA villager is battling for his life at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare after being stabbed once on the neck by a man who was angry that he had refused to buy him beer.
Police have since arrested Norest Mbiza (33), of Mbiza Village, for the attempted murder of Linton Dindingwe, 28, whom he also accused of dating his sister.
Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, said Dindingwe was in a stable condition at the hospital.
“On July 26, 2025, at around 7pm, the accused person and the complainant were drinking beer at Madanga Shops, Mbiza Village, Chief Zimunya.
“Mbiza approached Dindingwe and demanded that he should buy him some beer.
“He was also alleging that Dindingwe was having an affair with his sister.
“Dindingwe indicated that he had no money and that response did not go down well with Mbiza and he drew an unidentified knife and stabbed the complainant once on the neck just below the left ear.
“Dindingwe sustained a cut on the neck and was rushed to Munyarari Clinic where he was referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital for further management.”
He added:
“His condition is stable. Police attended the scene, arrested the accused person but could not locate the knife.
“We urge the public not to resort to violence to settle matters. Disputes must be solved peacefully and amicably.
“People having disputes must seek assistance from others in solving them,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
