Man stabbed to death, suspect on the run

POLICE in Chiredzi have launched a manhunt for a suspected killer who is on the run after he brutally struck an imbiber to death with a double-aged sword following a misunderstanding during a drinking spree.

Masvingo police provincial spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday at Village 7 in Mkwasine in Chiredzi district.

He said the suspect, Winfred Ugaro (age not given) fatally stabbed Richard Ngorenga Chihoyi (41) several times with a double-edged homemade sword before he fled from the scene.

“The suspect and the deceased had a dispute while drinking beer at a local pub. After the scuffle, Chihoyi left the drinking spot, and as he was walking home, Ugaro who was armed with a double-edged home-made sword followed him,” said Insp Dhewa

“Ugaro stabbed Chihoyi once on the right side of the neck, once on the back of the left hand, once inside the left palm, once on the left side of the chest.”

Chihoyi died on the spot and the body was taken to Chiredzi General Hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

“As police, we urge the public to desist from violence in the event of disputes. They should try to resolve their disputes amicably. We also implore members of the public to quickly report cases so that we swiftly move in,” said Insp Dhewa.
