A MISUNDERSTANDING between neighbours exploded into a savage axe and knife attack that has left one man fighting for his life and another staring at an attempted murder charge.
Mthobisi Sibanda (37), has appeared before the Bulawayo Magistrates’ Court for viciously attacking his unnamed neighbour over an undisclosed amount of money.
On 1 January at Mthombothemba Dam in Hope Fountain, Sibanda and his 32-year-old neighbour allegedly clashed over money. 3
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), tempers flared and fists were not enough.
“Allegations are that during the dispute, the accused person assaulted the complainant using multiple weapons, striking him once on the back of the head and once on the chin with the back of an axe, before allegedly stabbing him once on the face with a knife.”
All this over money.
Sibanda has been remanded in custody and will return to court on 20 January for further proceedings.
The NPAZ has warned that settling money matters with violence is a fast track to prison.
“Resorting to weapons to settle disagreements, particularly over money, is a grave criminal offence that attracts severe penalties under the law. Members of the public are encouraged to resolve disputes peacefully and report threats or acts of violence promptly.”
