A 26-YEAR-OLD Gwanda man stole three buckets of amacimbi from his sister and sold them claiming he wanted to raise money to buy clothes for his yet to be born child. Dyke Ndlovu of Buvuma area admitted to stealing from his sister Unique Moyo when he appeared before magistrate Arafat Kozanai yesterday. “Your Worship, my wife is pregnant and will be giving birth soon. I needed money to buy clothes to prepare for the baby and was forced to steal from my sister so I could raise some money. I managed to raise $50,” he said.
Magistrate Kozanai blasted Ndlovu saying his behaviour did not set a good example for a family man before telling him to respect other people’s property.
“When the season for mopani worms comes, you must go and harvest them yourself. You don’t reap where you didn’t sow,” said the magistrate.
Kozanai sentenced Ndlovu to four months imprisonment and conditionally suspended one month for five years.
The remaining three months were also suspended on condition he performed 105 hours of community service at Buvuma High School starting today.
Prosecuting, Gertrude Zvidzai, told how on June 11 last week around 9AM while Moyo was away, Ndlovu entered her room and stole three buckets of mopani worms valued at $60 and sold them for $50 at Buvuma Business Centre.
Ndlovu converted the money to his personal use.
