A 25-YEAR-OLD Harare man is facing five counts of theft after allegedly embarking on a month-long spree targeting vehicles at different locations across the capital.

Learnmore Muchongoyo appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo charged with theft.

The State alleges that Muchongoyo targeted vehicles between August 2 and 30, smashing windows before stealing cash, cellphones, a laptop and other valuables.

In the first incident, Muchongoyo allegedly smashed the passenger window of a vehicle near the intersection of Kikman Road and Harare Drive at around 4.20am on August 2 and stole a wallet containing US$200.

He allegedly returned to the same area on August 8, where he smashed another vehicle’s passenger window and stole a Redmi 13C cellphone. On August 24, Muchongoyo allegedly struck at the intersection of Sherwood and Solomon Mujuru Roads, smashing a passenger window and stealing a handbag containing US$105, a driver’s licence and three bank cards.

The State further alleges that the following day, Muchongoyo targeted a vehicle at Rabbit Restaurant at Golden Quarry, where he smashed its rear right quarter glass and stole an HP laptop and a bag containing personal documents.

Muchongoyo allegedly struck again on August 30 near Kikman Road and Harare Drive, where he smashed a passenger window and stole a G-Tel Delta cellphone.

He was arrested later that day in Westgate.

Muchongoyo is expected back in court today as the bail hearing progresses.
