A HARARE Harare man threatened to kill his wife with a knife following a dispute over US$11 airtime.
The matter came to light at the Harare Civil Court where Fortunate Sveto applied for a protection order against Ishmael Dzvenge.
Sveto claimed that her husband was in the habit of abusing her whenever he got drunk.
She told the court that on Saturday last week, Dzvenge attempted to kill him with a knife, after she reported him to Mbare Police Station.
He had stolen her airtime vouchers worth US$11.
“I don’t know what to do anymore with this man, he takes advantage of me because I am a woman.
“He insults, and assaults me everyday, over my own money.
“He stole my airtime vouchers worth US$11 and he gave me a thorough beating and attempted to kill me after I asked him about the airtime,”she said.
Sveto added:
“Recently, Dzvenge threw my clothes outside the house and chased me out of our matrimonial home, leaving our minor children behind.
“He is a lazy and irresponsible man who only wants booze and women.”
In response, Dzvenge denied the allegations.
“Sveto moved out on her own accord and now she is lying and creating stories.
“I confirmed that she once accused me of stealing airtime and that led me to be arrested at Mbare Police Station,” he said.
Presiding magistrate Sharon Mashavire granted the order in Sveto’s favour.
