A HARARE man allegedly threatened his wife with a knife in a paternity row over their 10-year-old son.

Isaiah Ruzekwe is at odds with his wife, Belita Makwina, as he suspects that the last-born son is not his child.

Isaiah made the revelations at the Harare Civil Court, where he applied for a protection order against Belita for emotional abuse.

He accused his wife of locking him outside the house.

“She locked me outside the house, together with the 10-year-old boy, on the 11th of July.

“I made a police report and they tried to negotiate with her, but she was defiant.

“I have since told her not to involve the child in our differences, but she always fights me in his presence,” said Isaiah.

In her defence, Belita denied the allegations and told the court that they were not on speaking terms with Isaiah. She said they used the boy as their means of communication, and accused Isaiah of emotionally abusing him by denying paternity in front of him.

“Isaiah refused to sign our son’s papers when he wanted to visit his siblings, in Italy, claiming he doubted his paternity.

“He is in the habit of threatening me with a knife saying that I should leave the house.

“I advised him that we should conduct a DNA test and he told me to pay for the test,” she said.

Magistrate Rutendo Machingura dismissed the protection order application for lack of merit.
