Man throws self at moving truck

A CHIRUMANZI man committed suicide by throwing himself in front of a moving haulage truck, police have said.
Police spokesperson for Midlands province Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the incident occurred on Sunday evening along the Harare-Masvingo highway.
Police identified the man as Mr Shepherd Chigovo (26).
“Allegations are that on Sunday evening at about 6.30pm, Ronald Fusire of Hatfield, Harare, was driving a haulage truck along the Masvingo–Harare highway on his way to Harare.

“On approaching the 222km peg near Mvuma town, Chigovo, who was on the side of the road suddenly threw himself in front of the oncoming truck,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Chigovo was hit by the haulage truck and died on the spot.
“The matter was reported to the police who attended the scene.

“Chigovo’s body was taken to Mvuma District Hospital,” said Insp Mahoko.
In an unrelated incident, a 10-year–old boy died on the spot when an ox-drawn cart he was travelling in overturned.
Insp Mahoko said the oxen which were pulling the cart became wild and got off the road.

The cart overturned, killing the boy instantly.
“The ox-drawn cart was being driven by Freeman Mhuru, a juvenile aged 14 when the oxen, which were not led, then pulled off the road and became wild. The cart hit a tree stump and overturned killing the boy identified as Evidence Mazivokufa on the spot,” he said.

Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public to always make sure that ox-drawn carts were led by adults.
