A MAN from Harare yesterday appeared in court for allegedly stealing 6kg of TelOne drop wire worth US$1 000.
Tapiwa Dziva (28) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Yeukai Dzuda charged with contravening the Postal and Telecommunications Act and was remanded in custody pending the outcome of his bail application.
TelOne Zimbabwe was represented by its loss control officer Mrs Jessemen Jariremombe.
Prosecuting, Ms Berlinda Chimuka alleged that on Tuesday this week, at around 12:30am, Dziva was in 12th and 13th Streets, Warren Park, where he cut about 1000 metres of drop wire from a telecommunication line belonging to TelOne.
He was seen by Tendai Kativhu and Tendai Kamujavana who alerted other residents and Dziva was arrested.
They searched him and recovered a rolled drop wire from his trousers pocket. Dziva was taken to Warren Park Police Station together with the recovered drop wire and handed over.
Later Kativhu also discovered a white sack and a blue and green satchel both packed with rolled drop wire hidden at the scene. He informed the police who came and recovered the drop wire.
The matter was referred to CID Minerals Flora and Fauna Unit Harare and TelOne officials were invited to identify the stolen property which they positively identified as theirs.
The exhibit was taken to National Railways of Zimbabwe, Harare office for weighing in the presence of Dziva and weighed 6kg.
