A Chitungwiza man has appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court for allegedly diverting to personal use, US$22 000 he was supposed to tender to a service provider.

Lionel Munashe Karumbidza (27) appeared before provincial magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi recently charged with theft of trust property.

The matter was remanded to tomorrow.

The complainant in the matter is Wise Owl Group of Schools represented by its director in charge, Mr Lesley Makirimani.

Prosecuting, Ms Grace Magocheke alleged that sometime in January, Karumbidza connived with his accomplice, Munyaradzi Karumbidza, who has already been placed on remand and hatched a plan to steal from the school.

On various occasions, the two received cash amounting to US$26 150 from Wise Owl Group of Schools’ Marondera and Harare accounts offices. The money was meant for the payment of a bulldozer working hours and its transportation.

However, the two converted the money to personal use after allegedly failing to surrender it to Avante Drilling (Private) Limited.

The offence only came to light when the drilling company made a follow-up on their payment from the school.

That is when it was discovered that the two only handed over US$3 760 to Avante Drilling, and withheld US$22 390, resulting in the matter being reported to the police, leading to the arrest of suspects.
