A MAN allegedly used a pellet gun to rob a shop where he stole US$5 cash and groceries at Nyamhanda Business Centre.

Maxwell Tangwena, 45, was arrested by police following the robbery on Friday last week. Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident. He said the suspect allegedly used the pellet gun to intimidate the shop attendant before stealing the goods and the cash.

The complainant, Kudzanai Samanyika (34), of Ngavagare Village, under Chief Saunyama in Nyanga, was confronted by Tangwena, who is also from the same village.

“The suspect allegedly entered the shop armed with a pellet gun, pointed it at the complainant and fired a shot into the air before stealing groceries and US$5 cash,” he said.

After his arrest, police also recovered the groceries, valued at US$35, together with the pellet gun allegedly used during the robbery. The recovery of the weapon and the stolen property forms part of the police investigation into the incident. Ass Insp Chinyoka warned members of the public against engaging in criminal activities.

“We warn members of the public against committing crimes and using weapons to threaten others.

“Anyone who engages in criminal activities should know that the law will take its course.

‘‘We encourage members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police. Community cooperation is important in preventing crime and ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are brought to justice.”
