Man vanishes with Honda Fit after test drive

A man yesterday appeared in court accused of embarking on a journey to Gweru in a Honda Fit he took at a car sale on the pretext of test driving it.

Roy Marimbe (36) appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Barbra Chimboza facing theft charges or alternatively, use of a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

He was remanded in custody to March 14, this year.

He was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

The prosecutor, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa alleged that on January 31, Marimbe went to Elegance Car Sale in Harare.

He took a Honda Fit registration number ADS 9071 from Godwill Mandizvidza for a test drive.

The court heard that he was supposed to return the vehicle on the same day.

It is alleged that Marimbe went on a journey to Kwekwe and Gweru without the owner’s consent.

Marimbe allegedly switched off his mobile phone.

Marimbe was arrested at his house following a tip-off. The vehicle is worth $5 000.
