A MARRIED man from Bulawayo yesterday demanded custody of his child from his ex-lover saying he could no longer afford to pay $60 monthly maintenance for his 13-year-old son.

Innocent Matekere dragged his ex-lover, Sibonakaliso Kamupira, of Nkulumane suburb to the Maintenance Court saying he was struggling to raise monthly maintenance after his salary was slashed from $400 to $320.

He told magistrate Sheunesu Matova that he wanted the custody of his child.

Matekere said if custody was not granted, the amount he was paying must be reduced.

“Your Worship I request that I be given custody of my child since he is now 13-years-old. I’m struggling to raise $60. My salary is $320 per month. I’ve four children excluding this one. If I’m not granted custody of my child, I beg the court to reduce monthly maintenance from $60 to $30,” he said.

Magistrate Matova told Matekere to apply for custody of his child at the juvenile court.
