adminMr George Wekwete (38) was acquitted at the close of the State case after regional magistrate Mr Clever Tsikwa ruled that the State had failed to prove a prima-facie case against him.
Through his lawyer Mr Admire Rubaya, Mr Wekwete had applied for discharge at the close of the State case after arguing that the State had no case against his client.
The State alleged that sometime in July last year the complainant sneaked out of school premises and went to Avondale Shopping Centre where he met Mr Wekwete.
The State said Mr Wekwete picked up the boy with his white vehicle and bought bread and some apples for the minor.
The two, it is alleged, went to Mr Wekwete’s house where upon arrival the boy was forced to bath in a tub in his bathroom. After the boy took a bath, the State said Mr Wekwete took the boy to his bedroom where he molested him and later bought him some jeans, a blue jacket, a vest and sandals before releasing him.
Sometime in August the same year the boy escaped again and went to Mr Wekwete’s home where the State alleged he sodomised him again and the boy failed to scream because of his retarded speech.
It was the State’s case that after sodomising him Mr Wekwete gave him some fruits and dismissed him.
On his way out, the State says the boy picked a bunch of keys, which were recovered by one of the teachers at Hatcliffe.
The State also alleged that the manager also sodomised the boy in September last year.
The matter came to light after a teacher at Emerald Hill Children’s Home discovered that the boy had some difficulties in walking and was frequently sneaking out of the home and bringing in food and clothes.
She took the boy to Avondale Clinic where he was referred to Family Support Clinic. At the clinic the doctor confirmed that the boy was sexually abused and a report was made and the 10-year-old led police to Mr Wekwete’s residence.
The State alleged that the boy identified Mr Wekwete as his abuser leading to his arrest.
