Top flight rivals want an unprecedented penalty against the Etihad-based club after they were found to have committed more than 100 breaches of League financial rules.
City have vowed to fight the “opinion” of the commission all the way, accusing it of swallowing “Premier League conspiracy theories” and launching an appeal.
And the agent of keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma said his player and others had been given reassurances that “sporting justice” would prevail. Enzo Railo told Italian radio: “Will the Manchester City chaos change anything?
“No, nothing will change for us or for Gigio. News comes out periodically. The club has spoken with Gigio and everyone is calm.
“Now there are important games against Liverpool and PSG, then sporting justice will take its course. But Gigio has had reassurances from Manchester City.”
City remain vehement their “comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence” will see the verdict overturned. In an official statement confirming their appeal, the club said:
“Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday, October 1, 2026, the club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter.
“The club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe.
“The club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case. We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete.”
Donnarumma and the rest of the City squad who were away on international duty will return to training on Thurs ahead of Sunday’s Prem clash at Liverpool. That will give boss Enzo Maresca his first chance to address the entire squad in person — Sun.
