GENESIS Mangombe has acknowledged that the Northern Region Soccer League is never an easy competition to participate in, but believes he can shepherd new boys Scottland to glory at the end of the championship race.
The youthful gaffer was yesterday unveiled as the new Scottland coach, barely 24 hours after parting ways with Premiership giants Dynamos.
Mangombe resigned from his DeMbare post on Monday night after more than a year at the helm of the biggest football club in the country having been elevated to the post following the sacking of Herbert Maruwa in May last year.
And with the ink to his short Dynamos resignation letter still drying up, the former Yadah mentor was penning a hefty deal with the mega-rich Division One club.
He was immediately handed a top-of-the-range car.
Mangombe was unveiled right as the Dynamos players finished training at Alex Sports Club where, coincidentally, Scottland, also conducted their practice sessions.
“I am happy to be at Scottland. I loved their being ambitious and that also suits me very well,” Mangombe said.
“My decision to join Scottland was very easy. They heard about my availability and they immediately contacted me. I met them and I agreed to be part of their dream.
“I am very happy to be part of them.
“I know the competition in the Northern Region Soccer League is very stiff. It is never going to be very easy for us but I believe we can do very well as a team.”
Mangombe, who has been given a two-year performance-based contract said he was happy with the players, who are at Scottland.
“There are very good players in the team, including recently-signed veterans of the Premiership like Allan Gahadzikwa, King Nadolo, and Ronald Pfumbidzai.
“The environment is very good at Scottland and it will only be about good man management. I think I am going to enjoy my stint at Scottland. I have worked with a lot of players who are at Scottland and I believe we will do well together.”
Mangombe has previously worked with such players as Jimmy Dzingai, Panashe Nyabunga, Godknows Mangani, and Denver Mukamba.
The gaffer has also been joined by two members of his Dynamos backroom staff — performance analysts Clinton Matiza and Desmond Mhene.
DeMbare goalkeepers’ coach Britto Gwere is also expected to join Scottland.
Former Scottland head coach William Nyasulu has not been thrown out as he has been relegated to being Mangombe’s assistant with Owen Paraffin now the second assistant.
