TRIANGLE United coach Genesis Mangombe believes his side can still avoid relegation if they maintain their recent momentum and collect maximum points from their remaining matches.
Mangombe was speaking after Triangle’s important 2-0 victory over TelOne on Saturday.
The result gave Triangle another lifeline for their fight for survival with the season entering its decisive stages.
The win was particularly valuable because it came away from home, with Triangle showing greater attacking efficiency to secure all three points.
Mangombe acknowledged the difficulty of the task ahead but said the team must approach each remaining fixture with the same determination.
“I know it’s tough and it’s very difficult, but we need to take every game when it comes,” said Mangombe.
“If we manage to collect maximum points in each and every game, surely we can survive the chop.”
The victory over TelOne also provided a welcome boost to Triangle’s confidence after a difficult campaign, with Mangombe pleased by his team’s ability to find the back of the net twice on the road.
“And I’m happy that we managed to score twice, playing away for the win,” he said.
However, Mangombe knows the result will count for little if Triangle fail to build on it. The coach stressed that the players must continue working hard as they attempt to climb away from danger.
“But you know, we need to work very hard, very, very hard,” he said.
Triangle’s immediate task is therefore clear, turn the TelOne victory into the start of a sustained run of positive results.
They are at the bottom of the log standings with a mere 18 points from 27 outings. With seven games to play, at least Triangle’s chances hang on them winning all their remaining matches.
