FORMER ZIFA technical director Taurai Mangwiro was last year appointed by Triangle United to transform them into Premier League champions, but he has conceded this year’s race before even the halfway point of the season. He believes either FC Platinum or Ngezi Platinum will be crowned champions.
The Sugar Sugar Boys have improved under Mangwiro’s guidance and they have been one of the better sides this year.
They even ended years of failing to beat Dynamos in a league match by hammering the Glamour Boys 3-0 at Gibbo.
“The truth of the matter is we dropped far too many points and the two platinum teams are way ahead of us and if anything we need an improvement to get a strong finish,’’ said Mangwiro.
“At some point we were within six points of the leaders and now we are twelve points behind and you want to think that is too big a gap.
“But what is important is to concentrate on winning our matches and see how the things shape up.
“For now the championship race is between FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum, a twelve-point gap is too big, you need at least four wins and them losing four as well.
“But the way in which they are playing you do not see them losing maybe three or four consecutive matches.
“As a team you need to be consistent so that you close in on them, but I am happy we won against Nichrut, our immediate target was the team above us Highlanders, as well as to open a gap between us and those that are below us like Harare City, Chicken Inn and CAPS United.’’
