Mangwiro under the spotlight

HARARE City coach Taurai Mangwiro’s fate will be under the spotlight this weekend when the club’s executive meet to review the first half of the season.

The coach, though, appears set to be given a vote of confidence after he presents his technical report to his employers.

The Sunshine Boys are on seventh position, and seven points behind log leaders Chicken Inn.

But the club, which invested in a number of new players and beefed up the technical side at the start of the season, feel they could have been in a stronger position.

Ahead of the match against Flame Lily on Saturday, the team, which usually goes into camp on the eve of matches, were ordered to come from home.

And after the match a section of supporters could not stomach the 2-2 draw at home and verbally abused the soft-spoken coach at Rufaro.

But yesterday club secretary-general Mathew Marara said it was premature to discuss issues when they had not reviewed the first half of the season.

“Concerning the camping issue, it does not mean much but just our financial status as you know that money is difficult to get and the team was forced not to go into camp,” said Marara.

“This weekend we will review the performance of the team and we have a meeting with the technical team. They will give us their technical reporting covering the first half of the season.

“So, for now, we will not comment but can only comment after this weekend’s meeting. Remember that as executive we are not as emotional as the supporters who expressed their disappointment over the weekend.

“But we had programmed that at the middle of the season we review our performance. The break is coming now after we had played the first match in the second half and we will now be having our review.”
