A MANHUNT has been launched in Marange after three suspects were implicated in a stock theft case that occurred in Mabvengwa Village, under Chief Marange.
The suspects – Godfrey Ratohwa, Ziwi Nyamana, and Energy Nyamana – were implicated in the stock theft racket by their alleged accomplice Farikai Wellington Derembwe who was arrested by the police at the scene.
Derembwe allegedly admitted to being hired to transport the meat to Sakubva for delivery.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident, which occurred on August 3.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said the complainant, Easy Mwanema, discovered that one of his oxen was missing from the kraal when he went to take his cattle to the grazing area.
Mwanema followed the tracks, which led him to Derembwe’s homestead, where he found the four men in the process of slaughtering it.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said pretending to be a potential buyer, Mwanema engaged the men in conversation while trying to confirm whether the bovine that was being skinned was his or not.
Mwanema positively identified the slaughtered ox as his and immediately alerted officers at ZRP Marange.
Police responded swiftly, and arrested Derembwe at the scene.
However, his three accomplices managed to escape and are currently on the run.
They have since been declared fugitives from justice, with the police appealing to members of the public with information leading to their arrest to contact their nearest police station.
